Every sign and banner that you create with us here at Blue Dot Signs is going to use some type of design. If you do not have a graphic designer on staff, we do offer graphic design services as part of our signage options, so that you have the support you need to create a custom sign according to your ideas.
For those that have a graphic designer in-house, there are some specific guidelines that should be followed in order to create the sign correctly.
The following are some of the graphic design guidelines for signage and banners.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Blue Dot Signs today for more information.
There are many different types of signs. There are some signs that may require vector files in CAD design software, and some file formats that are better for other, more basic designs.
That said, in general you will want to supply us with one of the following file formats for your designs:
If you are using a different type of format and are not sure how to convert it to the correct format, there are free online file converters that you can use for image file format conversions.
NOTE: If using layers, you will need to flatten the layers before sending it to our team. This will ensure it is ready to print and also guarantee that you’re satisfied with the final design.
Quality matters, and not all graphic design programs make it possible to save your file with a level of quality that our team can use to print you a beautiful sign.
That is why we strongly recommend you use the right software to design your sign. Some of the most popular and highly acceptable signage options include:
While there may be other programs that can create quality imagery, these are all examples of the graphic design software that experts use to create their sign designs, and we recommend you use one of these products unless you have specific expertise in graphic design and can still send the file in the appropriate format.
All signs should be designed at 100% (actual) size. If this is not possible, signs should be designed in a higher resolution. 150 dpi is acceptable, but 300 dpi is recommended to provide greater detail to the images.
When you save files, especially .jpg files, make sure that you always save in the highest quality file format.
If you are using some type of specialized font, it is recommended that you convert the font to what’s known as “outlines and curves” so that it is seen by our printers as a drawing, rather than printed as a font.
If you need to keep the file as a font, please make sure you send us the font so that we can ensure a proper print.
Colors should also be saved in CMYK whenever possible. Blue Dot Signs is not responsible for any color problems due to selecting the wrong color format.
Sending Your Files to Blue Dot Signs
Once your image has been completed, we recommend that you first compress the file using WinZip or any other free compression program so that the final file size is smaller.
You can send the file to us in a variety of ways:
If these are not possible, contact us and we will consider other methods, such as DropBox for select clients. We do not currently accept USB drives.
If you do not have a designer on staff that can assist you, let our team at Blue Dot Signs know, as we have several sign designers that can work with you to create a design that meets all of these requirements.
For certain types of signs, such as banner stands, we may have templates available that can assist you with the proper dimensions.
We also provide custom sign fabrication in many different shapes and styles, so please contact us if there is a type of specialty sign that requires a unique custom design.
It may require some design elements that may need to come in separately. As always, you are welcome to contact us and we are happy to provide you with more feedback.
Blue Dot Signs is here for you. Let us know what you’re looking for, and our team of designers will help you create it.
