Plastic letters are Durable, Economical and available fast

Plastic Letters are generally made of acrylic, also known as plexiglass. These letter signs are smooth, modern, and the acrylic offers exceptional clarity - similar to glass, although other colors and styles are available. Yet compared to glass (and other materials), acrylic is far more durable and more customizable. At Blue Dot Signs, we can create logo letters to reflect your company name or design a special message with a unique appearance that matches your brand.

Customized Plastic Letters

We create plastic letters from sheets of shatter-resistant acrylic. The material is available in several different thicknesses, and the optimal measurement depends on the overall size of the letters and where they will be used. In general, larger letters require thicker acrylic for stability. The standard thicknesses include:

  • 1/3"
  • 1/4"
  • 1/2"
  • 1"

Each letter is cut from the acrylic sheet with either a CNC router if it is thin enough, or laser cutting for thicker letters. Both pieces of technology allow us to load in your design directly and then precision cut the plastic into the exact shape. This makes it possible to render any font, including handwriting. Some of the most popular fonts are:

  • Helvetica
  • Times New Roman
  • Garamond
  • Impact

It is also possible to create shapes in acrylic. For instance, we can cut your company’s logo to display alongside your name.

Customized Plastic Letters

The color possibilities with acrylic can include any of the standard colors, or the custom color of your choice. We use the Pantone Matching System to key code colors in your design to the corresponding shade in acrylic. Finishing options can make letters either matte or glossy.

For installation, smaller and lighter acrylic letters can be fixed directly to an interior wall with an adhesive backing. Larger letters, or those used outside, should be installed with hardware. We can also complete your lettering with pins so they can be installed with a gap between them and the wall for an additional 3 dimensional element.

Why Plastic Letters are Perfect Choice

In addition to being a stand out solution for signage with their multi-dimensionality and vibrancy that can draw attention even from a distance, plastic letters offer many benefits to those looking for a versatile sign. These benefits include:

  • Endless Customization Options - Colors, fonts, thicknesses, finishing, and more - all the customization choices for acrylic letters means they can match any brand.
  • Durable - Acrylic is water resistant, shatter proof, and strong. As long as it is kept away from objects that could scratch, acrylic lettering will easily last for years.
  • Affordable - Plastic remains one of the most cost effective materials out there. Lettering from acrylic is a great option to get the right design without hurting your budget.
  • Easy to Install - Whether you choose to flush mount or pin mount your letters to the wall, their lightweight means they can be installed with limited handyman experience and few, if any, tools.

Despite the lower price when compared to metal letters, acrylic and plastic letters still provide a professional appearance. With the numerous options for customization in colors and finishes, plastic letters can achieve styles that are not possible with metal.

Uses of Plastic Letters

Since plastic letters are suitable for both outdoor and indoor use, they work well for storefront signs and company name signs on the exterior of buildings. They are also popular for displaying your company name, directions, and messages in interior settings. Businesses where acrylic signs work well include:

  • Retail Stores
  • Restaurants
  • Lobbies
  • Corporate Offices
  • Law Firms
  • Medical Offices

Because of the flexibility and affordability of plastic and acrylic, almost any business can incorporate plastic letters into their signage needs.

  • How Should I Maintain Plastic Letters?

Regularly wiping lettering down with a soft cloth and gentle cleaner is generally enough to keep your letters looking nice. Do not use any product that could scratch the acrylic.

  • Can I Get a Rush Order?

We welcome rush orders. Our turnaround time for signs is rapid due to our in house design and fabrication process. If you need your order even faster, we can arrange a special timeline.

  • How Big Should My Plastic Letters Be?

To plan for your letters, first measure the display area you have available. You want your letters to be large enough to be readable, but not too big that they look cluttered. Fonts like cursive or those with more detail need to be larger to be legible.

  • Are There Options for More Durable Lettering?

Metal lettering is also a possibility. It comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, materials, and finishes, and many of the materials can withstand both extensive indoor and outdoor use without deteriorating
