CNC cutting relies on technology to trim different substrates in ways that are not often possible for a human to accomplish. The technology also automates the process, making it faster and more cost effective than cuts done by hand or other programmable machines.
Blue Dot Signs uses CNC technology and a range of routers for materials for use in our sign fabrication. If you are interested in router cutter services or a custom shaped sign in NJ, please contact us today at firstname.lastname@example.org or send us your design to get started.
CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. A CNC router combines a computer controller and a cutting machine. The controller is programmed to make small or large cuts into a variety of different types of material, in order to create a more unique and special appearance. The programming uses two pieces of technology - CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing). A 2 dimensional blueprint of the design is created in a CAD program.
The CAM software converts the CAD vectors into G-code, or instructions in the form of coordinates. The CNC controller interprets the G-code coordinates and moves the router to the correct places to make those cuts. The human operator decides the type of router to be used depending on the material, as well as the speed and cut depth.
Unlike other cutting machines, CNC routing with the use of CAD/CAM software reduces programming time as the process is largely automated. It also makes possible designs that are not achievable manually or with the less intricate programming of non-CNC machines.
CNC machines are perhaps best known for their CNC wood routing services. This allows you to have a custom carved wood sign, engraved wood, or something more unique that only a custom CNC wood routing can do. But CNC routers are not limited to wood. In fact, they are one of the best ways to cut metal, plastic – even concrete.
At Blue Dot Signs, we can use these CNC routing tools to make special designs out of nearly any material, including, but not limited to:
CNC routers use CAD files to render the shape that will be cut. The design is created to scale in a CAD program, which the CAM software will then relay to the router. When ordering your sign, you can either provide the CAD file for your design or let our designers ready the sign for cutting by converting an art file into CAD renderings.
We can offer consultations as well, and let you know if there are any limitations to custom CNC cutting that may impact your design. In addition to sign fabrication, we may be able to provide wholesale CNC cutting services for non-sign products. Contact us with the details and we’ll let you know.
